Potential and Kinetic energy

Potential and Kinetic energy are how everything around us works, moves and transforms the world. 

Potential energy is energy stored inside an object. An example of potential energy is a loaf of bread because the energy in the bread isn't moving inside it. Kinetic energy is moving energy. An example of kinetic energy is a running person because it is using energy that is moving while he is running.

Energy has many forms. Some forms of energy are mechanical, heat, sound and chemical energy. 

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be converted from one form to another form. For example, in a laptop electric energy from the plug converts into sound and light energy when the laptop turns on.

In order to understand ourselves better, we need to understand what our body is made of, which is energy. With the knowledge of understanding energy we could invent new things because everything is made of energy. We could predict what is going to happen with the earth. These things couldn't be done without understanding energy.

Analyzing energy

Today in class we did something very interesting. We used tracker to understand how different types of energy appear in a cart. I learned that the kinetic energy of an object affects the speed in many ways. We saw in the velocity graph that when the cart was moving down the ram it was gaining speed but when it got to the bottom it started to decrease. We also saw in the kinetic energy graph that it was the same. When the cart was moving down the ramp the energy was increasing and when it got to the bottom it started to decrease. We can conclude that the velocity comes from the gravitational energy of the cart converting into kinetic and/or mechanical as it moved down the ramp  so it gained more velocity. When the cart got to the bottom of the cart it decreased because the cart didn't have any gravitational energy to convert into kinetic so i started to lose the velocity.
